More than 280 million people worldwide have used Microsoft's MSN Hotmail service. The software giant has renewed the brand for many of its Web sites and programs under the new name "Live", but the Hotmail logo has remained unchanged to keep users from getting confused.

Live Hotmail will have 2 gigabytes of data storage and embedded messaging, lifting the e-mail service to compete with Yahoo Inc., AOL of Time Warner Inc. and Google Inc. In the United States, as of April, there are about 81 million users of Yahoo's email service, while just 47.5 million have Hotmail or Windows Live Mail. There are nearly 47.2 million AOL users and 14 million Google Gmail users.
